This was my first time seeing Buzz! I’d planned to see the Melvins when they played here last but the show got sold out. Solo and acoustic! Extremely intense and a lot of fun…

I saw Yngwie Malmsteen for the first time a couple days ago. I was as excited to see Bumblefoot as I was to see Malmsteen. Unfortunately, they switched the order the bands played in. Bumblefoot was to open, Malmsteem next and Gary Douglas Band closed the evening. What this meant to me was that I could only see Malmsteem. He was really good, playing ultra fast and melodic solos!

I got to hang out with my buddy Vikas last week week at Bonnaroo. He has this nack of picking up music that I may not in most circumstances listen to. He has introduced me to many of the artists and bands I love today. He often raids these dollar bin CD’s at record store and ends up finding a lot of gems. Last week I decided to follow the suit.
I picked these CD’s and they costed me like $7. Extremely happy!
Steve Von Til – As The Crow Flies. I am happiest with this purchase. I love Neurosis and this album kicks ass. Give it a listen, its mellow, acoustic and haunting!

Ugly Kid Joe – As Ugly As It Gets. Old memories, I think Viren or Vikas owned it on a cassette. =)

Medeski Martin & Wood – Last Chance To Dance Trance (Perhaps): Best Of 1991-1996. Early MMW. You cannot go wrong with this. BTW Combustication is remastered and released on vinyl!!!

REM – Life’s Rich Pageant and Fables Of The Reconstruction. Classic REM!

Amazing show at the Royal Room. Skerik and Wayne Horvitz playing the music of Sun Ra. Although, I have not really heard a lot of Sun Ra, I have always wanted to. Recently Derek Trucks mentioned that one of the best shows that he ever attended was that of Sun Ra and The Arkestra. Guess I will never be able to see Sun Ra but I couldnt have passed on this. It was a treat. Wayne and Skerik were awesome as always. I was particularly impressed with three others: Hanna Benn, Alex Guy and Beth Fleenor. Gotta look out to see these guys playing live again.
Electric Circus was featuring:
Skerik (sax)
D’Vonne Lewis (drums)
Dawn Clement (keyboards)
Tim Kennedy (organ, synthesizers)
Ian Sheridan (electric bass)
Geoff Harper (acoustic bass)
Hanna Benn (vocals)
Beth Fleenor (clarinets)
Sean Woolstenhulme (guitar)
Darren Loucas (guitar)
Alex Guy (viola/violin)
Willem de Koch (trombone)
Thione Diop (percussion)
Wayne Horvitz (conductor/electronics).

Found a new vinyl copy of Jack Johnson’s “On and On” for $8. Couldn’t resist from buying…

I am so glad I heard Led Zeppelin when I did. I think I must have been in my 8th grade. The first album I heard was Led Zeppelin 1 and then I listened to their Atlantic Remasters:

My friend Vikas and I really loved the first album. Back in those days, we (Vikas and I) had a common music collection. When one bot a cassette, the other wouldnt. When that remaster came out, we both pooled in money and decided to get that album recorded on cassettes. We got them recorded on TDK D90 cassettes and if I remember it right, they were a little longer than 3 cassettes. On the remainder of the cassette, we recorded “Shake your money maker” by Black Crowes (I will write about that another time). Until this point, we were heavily into loud music: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest, etc. After this we got into Sabbath, Who, etc…
Last week, Mr. Page released another remastered re-issue of the first three albums. I considered buying the collectors edition of all three, then only the first but I finally decided to get the original albums on vinyl. Not the deluxe editions, the same old albums.

Yes, they sound lovely!
Saw Victor Wooten at the Neptune. This guys is a genius or what? The show started a bit slow to my liking. But in about 15-20 minutes or so, Victor was smoking. Great show!

I love Oz Noy. I used to go see him at Bitter End in NYC when I lived up there. Thanks to Vikas who introduced me to him.
He comes to Seattle once a year to Jazz Alley and I dont pass on that opportunity. He never disappoints. His first two albums have been a soundtrack to stay in NYC. =) Gosh, so much fun. I am listening to “Chillin” as I am writing this. Awesome stuff.
He is a very accomplished musician and I really wish he is more in the limelight. His shows are intense and absolute no-nonsense. He has never disappointed, even once! This show was extra special as he was being accompanied by Oteil and Keith Carlock. I love Oteil but I not been much into Keith Carlock’s music. The show was amazing. Most of the show comprised of stuff from his newest album. Keith Carlock kicks ass! Oz and Oteil were relaxed and seemed to be enjoying themselves too. Thoroughly enjoyed the show. How I wish he comes here more often.
