Eagerly awaiting this release, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth

I love TAD. And I really really like the Brothers of the Sonic Cloth. I have seen them twice by now and both the shows rocked. I have been eagerly awaiting their self-titled record thats being released on Neurot Recordings.

I can hardly wait. You can enjoy this until then:

Mudhoney, Neumos – Seattle

This was the first show of the year for me. Yeah, its been a slow start to the year. I haven’t been feeling my best. Anyways, Mudhoney! These guys sound so fantastic. My goodness! Life is so weird, on one hand these guys and likes of Tad are still playing these small venues and some of their peers have made it so big. Its strange. I donno if its particularly bad that these guys are playing the small venues cos, its way more fun to see them rock these places. I think it must be more satisfying for the band too. But its strange, no less.

Mudhoney rocks! They sound amazing. Crisp, no-nonsense and intense! What a great start to the year…

Critters Buggin, Nectar – Seattle

Ofcourse I did not want to miss this show. A band with so many heavy-weights, who would want to.

Critters Buggin are:
Matt Chamberlain
Skerik
Brad Houser
Mike Dillon

The show was amazing. It was a surprise for me to see Skerik play keys more than the sax. Each song was unique. Funky, Jazzy, Punk, I donno how to classify the band. I think this was the first time I saw someone play slide-bass. That was awesome. Man, I still do wish I had seen Mark Sandman play!

Luaka Bop

A few weeks ago, I met Aldo Struyf in a record store. It was great chatting with him. I asked him for music recommendation and he said anything from Luaka Bop, with emphasis on “Who Is William Onyebor?”. Later, when PopMarket.com came up with this collection, I couldn’t pass.

Young Mule

Ever since I had read the announcement of this show, I have wanted to listen to this. Couple weeks ago, I bot the album. Although I only own the digital copy of it, its still worth a mention and a strong recommendation from me. Give it a listen, Mule rules!

Experiencing Nirvana

I went to Orcas Island last weekend for a weekend get-away. It was really beautiful out there. Ours was a last minute plan but everything worked out quite well. We stayed at this waterfront property with beautiful view of the waters and Mt Baker.

Next morning we set out to drive around the island. We thought of starting with a breakfast. As I was parking my car, I see Mr. Bruce Pavitt walking. OMG! I said hello to him and what a gentleman he was. I got to thank him for all that he has done and some conversations about Tad, Nirvana and Mudhoney. Ha ha! His visit to India and his current interests, which is DJing. He was also kind enough to walk with me to the bookstore and sign me a copy of “SUB POP USA: The Subterranean Pop Music Anthology, 1980-1988”. Happy accidents!

Black Keys, Moda Center – Portland

Black Keys is one of my favorite bands. I have been extremely that they have been popular with the younger kids. I love the new album “Turn Blue” as well. But I wasnt so happy with this show. I dont particularly enjoy shows that happen in stadiums. To top that, these guys are playing the same set each night! They lacked the live element, the spontaneity.

Crappy cellphone pics are here.

Tuatara, Seamonster Lounge – Seattle (Nov, 2014)

I was eagerly waiting for this show. I was expecting one of these super star guitar players, McCready or Buck alongside the usual suspects: Barrett Martin (Drums and Keys), Skerik (Sax) Andy Coe (Guitars), Evan Flory-Barnes (Bass), Steve Moore (Trombone and Keys). Too bad that Skerik wasn’t playing. The show was awesome. These guys seemed like they play together everyday. So tight. Amazing music. Checkout their latest album – Underworld – if you haven’t already.

These guys are amazing. I was totally surprised to not see a bigger crowd there. Wish there were more people and wish these guys play many many more shows. I am looking forward to the December show.

My lens have no zoom. So couldn’t get a shot of the entire band together. But here you go:

Omaha Diner, Jazz Alley – Seattle

I love Skerik and I dont mind seeing him play with whoever who he chooses to play. This time it was Omaha Diner. The band is comprised of Charlie Hunter, Steve Bernstein, Bobby Previte and Skerik. They were awesome and I loved Charlie Hunter. Gotta seem him again!
