Need more space

My music collection has surpassed well over 80 GB which means that each time i add a new album to my collection, i have to make space for it. And with iTunes that’s unbelievably difficult. 😦

I decided to unselect some songs i don’t often listen to very often and then use the "Sync only checked songs and videos". Only to realise that i have to unselect one song at a time. 😦 A cool thing at this point would be to delete duplicates. I have lot of songs that i bot as part of different collection. A good example would be the song Clapton’s (Derek & The Dominos) "Layla". I have the song from 3 different albums (and i am not including the live versions). The same take from Dominos album, from Duane Allman’s anthology and Clapton’s Crossroads. Wouldn’t it be cool if iTunes was smart enough to understand this and just keep one copy of the song and still maintain the albums with the song? Guess it will be another few years before we see that in action. Until then I wish I had more space on my iPod and i did not have to deal with all this mess. 😦

On a side note, since i got a Zune, (yeah i have a 80 GB Zune that Prasad gifted me) i haven’t been using iPod all that very often. I just love my Zune. The only reason i still use iPod is cos Zune does not integrate with my car. And since i chose to copy my entire music collection there as well, i have the same problem in both the places.

Alright, let me get back to unselecting some songs. 😦

Spaces.live.com UI is broken

I happened to open my blog "logged out" just now and i surprised to see that the UI is broken. Damn!! I am super particular about such things and I remember a spending an hour to fix the "modules" only to realize that they were broken when everyone else saw it. 😦

Take a look

“The Ghost of Tom Morello”

Tom Morello is so freaking inspiring. I am in awe of that guy. I just can never get enough of him. One of the most sincere person I have seen. Each time i read his blog, i admire him even more and aah, his music is just spectacular!!

In his blog today he narates the story about him getting a chance of playing "Ghost of Tom Joad" with The Boss. The thoughts that went through his head, the nerves he felt. (Oh, he feels nerves too? I always he is made of steel), the excitement he felt, and the joy he felt to sharing stage.

City of Microsoft

I saw this advt of Acapulco at the back of a Metro (public transport) bus. Acapulco is a Mexican grill restautant for those who dont know. The advt was pretty much usual but for the locations it mentioned.

Locations read: Redmond, Sammamish, Issaquah (all cities) and Microsoft written in the same font. 🙂 Interesting.

Fun times

The Seattle weather is absolutely gorgeous right now, and my college buddy Tanmay is visiting me. We had a great weekend, recollecting memories from the college days. Tanmay sings very well and as i was expecting we spend quite a bit time playing songs too. Here is something we recorded yesterday. We did not even practise the whole song even once, but it was fun. 🙂

In tune, this June

I have already seen two spectacular shows this month. Return to Forever and Herbie Hancock.

I cant praise enough and thank Return to Forever enough for their show. Chick Corea is genious. He creates all those sounds and textures and makes it all look as simple as driving a car, lol. On this particular show, he played a breathtaking solo before "Romantic Warrior". Wow! Al Di Meola? A monster player. Guitar hero and his solo before No Mystery was just phenomenal. Man!! Stanley Clarke and Lenny White. There was too much talent on stage.

Herbie Hancock was just awesome too. There was Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Holland on stage. and the two songs Sonia Kitchell sang – River and All I really wanna do were as good as they can get. I was amazed to see her put in so much into those two songs. Absolutely spectacular!!

Coming next are: Keb Mo and Taj Mahal (today), Mose Allison and Larry Coryell later this week, Mark Knopfler and BB King. Wooo.

And ya, I got to meet Peter Buck of REM yesterday. :p Got a pic and got "Automatic for the People" autographed. 🙂

Prayer of St. Francis

I was listening to Sarah MaLachlan’s version of "Blackbird" which lead me to read the review of the album. Most of the songs on that album are covers. I noticed a song called "Prayer of St. Francis" and i looked up the song on youtube. Yes it was "Make me a channel of your peace". Her version sounds pretty different from how we sang it in the school. But it did bring back a lot of memories. Open air auditorium and the song sung in chorus by us. 🙂 This version of Sinead O’Corner sounds more like how we sang it.

Coincidently, i listened to another song from my school days. "Brown Girl In the Ring" – Bonney M classic couple of days ago. Although, I heard Taj Mahal’s version i feel like putting the Boney M version here. We sang this song on each and every school picnic. LOL.

PS: I went to a school called St. Francis D’Assisi and the song "Prayer of St. Francis" was almost like a school song, sung everyday before school began… Imagine about 3000 kids singing the song on top of their lungs, in chorus, early in the morning, wearing their school uniform. 🙂

Happiness only real when shared

I saw a homeless lady at the University Ave yesterday. It was about 11.15 in the night and it was starting to get chilly. Luckily – it wasnt the usual cold Seattle nights. The lady had covered herself under a big sheet of blue plastic that would cover her whole body as she sat there. She had two boxes, quite big boxes on either side. I assumed that those will be all her belongings. I could hardly see her face, although I could tell that she was old. She was opening and closing her fist which made me feel that she either had some pain in her hands or she was doing that to generate some heat to keep her warm.

I continued to I walk ahead, to my car that was parked about 10 feet away from her. I noticed the beautiful glass windows of the Brooklyn building and took a few pics and drove away – like i saw nothing.

Somehow i couldnot forget the sight. Its kept playing in my mind. I was at the Ave for my dinner. I was super hungry yesterday and i had two burgers, fries and a milk-shake. I’d tipped the guys 3 bucks. Now, i was wondering what that money would have meant to that lady?

I cannot imagine how it would be for her to live each day of her life like that. Imagine, nothing to look forward to. Nobody to shower and love or effection. No gurantee of dinner that night. Only a sheet of plastic to protect from the cold and of course all the rain we see here. Imagine having to walk to every place. Imagine the looks some people give the homeless if they come closer. Man. What would have someone done to deserve such a fate? I cannot imagine. If there’s something that scares me then its poverty and loneliness.

There’s not much that i can do about this besides continuing to donate to charity the money i already do. But i so sincerely hope the lady finds someone who loves her and takes care of her.

I had been to Skagit Valley yesterday to see the tulips. Although i was disappointed to see that there were not too many tulips, i am quite happy with some of the shots i got. Here is the one i liked the best. 🙂

Here is a link to see them all.
