Reserved quota
Back in India, we would have reserved quota for people who come from castes what are not very developed or advanced and for folks who were not rich. Almost everything controlled by the government will have a percentage of seats reserved for the "Reserved quota".
For example, if in an engineering college, if there are 60 students, 30 seats would be reserved and the remaining 30 for students who wanted to grab those on the merit. In my college, if the open seat closed at 98% marks, the reserved could close at even less than 60%. This ofcourse pissed the students who tried to grab the seats on merit.
Now, we never reservations in all desciplines. Like for example, Indian cricket team does not have this stupid "reserved quota". In general, in my opinion, this quota exists where its convenient and in areas where the key decisionmakers can benefit (read between the lines there).
Shouldnt everything be fair? Shouldnt everything be based on merit? Should someone really discriminate based on religion, caste, colour of the skin, economic status or for that matter nationality? In my opinion – HELL NO!
Introducing "50/50". Now, do we need another bill that mandates that you can buy only 50% non-american cars? If you have one Toyota already, next one has to be a GM, Ford or Chrysler!! 😉

Long may you run!
…then there are musicians,
then there are singers,
then there are songwriters,
then there are singer-songwriters,
then there are poets, lyricists,
then there are guitar gods,
then there are lead guitarists, rhythm guitarists, electric guitarists, acoustic guitarists
then there are solo musicians, band players,
then there are showmen, some that touch your soul, some that make you scream,
then there are musicians whose music crosses genres,
then there are musicians who start new genre of music,
there are artists…
…and then there is Neil Young!!
Happy Neil Young Archives!!!

Chickenfoot’d
I was extremely lucky to get to see Mr. Joe Satriani at a cosy little bar, which hosted not more than 350 people last night, where the new super group Chickenfoot made their first ever appearence. They played about 13 songs, and what a show it was… wow.
The highlight for me was ofcourse watching Satriani play. That guy is a monster, talented or rather someone who has perfected his art by keeping on practising religiously. Its a joy to see him play. I wish i can be like him… aah, who wouldnt what to be. An inspiration.
One of the things i will never ever forget was a point in the show where Sammy Hagar (vocals) said, he and the other guys dint like to rehearse so much but Joe always get them to rehearse. He said he is so good yet he likes to rehearse. Joe just raised shoulders and one hand, without saying a word. To me, it was like, he was saying, isnt that what i always preach, ask you guys to do? Man, what a guy.
I am so glad i went for this show, thanks to Vikas for sending me the link to the tickets website. The tickets had sold out within 5 minutes.
Thank you Professor Satchafunkilus!!

Power Play!
I just had to post this… I love this song and I love Tom even more. I have seen Tom play this, stand up close to the stage twice and it was just awesome!!! When it comes to this song, I think Tom gives a little extra when he plays the song. He wrote a long blog on about playing with The Boss, the last time they played together.
Enjoy every second of the video!!

RIP Kurt
Today, it’s been 15 yrs since Kurt Cobain passed away. I went by to Kurts park today for a few. There werent many people there. Some candles were lit, some picks left on the bench, some cigarettes and some lighters. Amongst all these, there was a note from an 8 year old Delaney.
The note reads:
To: Kurt Cobain
From Delaney
I am eight my birthday is January First.
Your songs were great my mom told me that every body liked your songs. To bad you took drugs it makes every body really sad. It makes me sad that you died. Every body loved you a lot.

Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad
If there is something I will always feel bad about, its the fact that Derek Trucks fell sick when on the day he was supposed to play in Seattle with Clapton. I did get to see Clapton but there was no Derek. For a long time, I’ve been searching a decent quality version of this song “Why does love got to be so sad” and finally I found one… pure bliss!
Apparently, this song features on the “Exclusive edition” of the Crossroads 2007 DVD, you could have bot at Bestbuy only. 😦

ZydecOldsmobile
Last week I saw Sonny Landreth play at the Triple door. The show was just awesome. I am enjoying his music more than ever since then. I also bot his new album – "From the reach" based on Vikas’ recommendation. And its worth a lot more than what i paid for, not one bad song and some absolute gems. "Uberesso" and "Blue Tarp Blues" are my favorites so far. I always loved "Grant Street". Its a awesome record. Watching Sonny play "Native Stepson" and "Pedal" was a treat!
So i thought of buying some of his early CD’s to complete my collection. So i looked around in every store in Bellevue without any luck. So i went to Seattle. Easy Street dint have anything that i dint. So I went to another record store, in UW, just don’t feel like naming it.
I looked around and then, couldn’t find a Sonny album – neither in Blues nor in Pop/Rock. So i went up to the guy at the counter and asked him if he had any Sonny Landreth CD’s. There were two guys at the counter who made me spell his name. Cos of my Indian accent, i had to spell it a few times before they could get it right. They looked up their inventory on the computer and told me they dint carry any of his CD’s. Next he asked me, what genre of music was that, Jazz? I said Blues and thought to myself, huh this guy doesn’t know Sonny Landreth and he owns this big record store.
Next, I thought of trying the used record store in UW. I went there and luckily i found 2 of his albums that i gladly picked. I went to the counter and gave the guy these two CD’s. The guy asks me, "Did you see him last Saturday?". I was so happy. Here is somebody who knows what he is doing. I said "Yes!!". I asked him if he did, and apparently, he hadn’t. Next he asked me if i saw Susan Tedeschi at Moore, i told him that i missed that show. The we started discussing a few other shows we both has seen and so on. The guy also went on to recommend some music and i think i will take his suggestions and try them out.
Some places just make you feel like home and make you feel like coming back. I know where i will be going first next time i go CD shopping in UW. For those of you who don’t know who Sonny Landreth is, here he is guesting on a Mark Knopfler song. Hope you enjoy it!
And here’s one more:
