Pigs on the Wing

I saw this pig at a restaurant and immediately thought of this song…

You know that I care what happens to you,
And I know that you care for me.
So I don’t feel alone,
Or the weight of the stone,
Now that I’ve found somewhere safe
To bury my bone.
And any fool knows a dog needs a home,
A shelter from pigs on the wing.

Joe Satriani, Paramount – Seattle

Who doesn’t like Satriani? He is a guitar god and I was super excited about the show. It was a good show. Its amazing to listen to those songs live. I wonder how much more awesome it will be if varied his setlist a bit and improvised more.

ZZ Top, Moore Theater – Seattle

I dont know what took me so long to see ZZ Top. I got tricked by some asian guy who sold me “General Admission” tickets which were tickets to the second balcony for about $20 above face, a month before the show. Jeez! How did I fall for that?

Anyways, it was a great show. Really tasty blues solo’s from Billy Gibbons. I want to see em again for sure. Hope they vary their setlist for that show, they were playing the same set each night on this tour!

Winery Dogs, The Crocodile – Seattle

This was one show I was crazy excited about. Such great musicians at The Crocodile! A supergroup!!! It was a good show but they did not live up to my expectations. Some of my friends are a die-hard fans of the band and they wouldn’t understand why I felt so. I would certainly go see them one more time, who knows…

Flight To Mars, Showbox at the Market – Seattle

This years show did not have as many “special guests” as their usual. McCready was awesome as usual. Jeff Fielder stood out with his tasty solos. Not much this time around from Tim Dijulio.

I consider myself a veteran at the annual Flight to Mars shows for CCFA benefit. I have attended over half a dozen of these shows. =) Most of the early shows have been very memorable. If you havent seen McCready play with Shadow, you havent seen him at all. Of all the people I have seen play Hendrix songs, in my book, McCready plays them the best. Him playing Machine Gun at one of these shows is one of my most memorable concert memories. He is just something else!

All in all a good show but not in the same league as some of their past shows.

McTuff, Seamonster – Seattle

McTuff is a really prolific band from Seattle. Its a trio that often invites their friends to join them. I saw them once with Crack Sabbath and was very impressed with them. McTuff was sort-of co-headlining the show but it was also a Crack Sabbath show. Fast forward to this Tuesday. I did not have anything better to do and I wanted to cool off after a long day. I decided to check these guys out at this insanely cosy place Seamonster Lounge – no expectations really. By now I have seen Andy Coe (guitars) play many a times and he is really good but again, I did not go with any expectations.

What happened next was mind-blowing. These guys are so funky and groovy! Man, they were on fire. Its insane that they are not the most talked about band and playing at bigger and popular venues. Each one of them smoked. Andy was ripping it apart from their first song, Tarik (drums) who had recovered from a fractured hand was, in my opinion, making up for what he wasn’t able to in the last few months. Or who knows, that’s probably his usual. Either way, it was a treat. Joe (hammond organ) was amazing too. He is funny and just awesome! An exceptional show, simply wow!

Every now and again, you discover a band and are like why did I not get into this music earlier? It was definitely that feeling for me on Tuesday. Dont miss em, if you have a chance. If you live in the Seattle area, they pretty much play 100 shows every week. Do yourself a favor and go check em out!

Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Neumos Seattle

This was a show I was looking forward to for a long time. Neumos is an amazing venue and to see Chris Robinson there would have been awesome. Unfortunately, somethings came up at the last minute and that meant i was not going to be able to see the entire set. I decided to go for the last 45 minutes of the first set.

When I walked in through the doors, it was magic! Man, how sweet was that sound! Too much awesomeness!!! Chris sounded really really good and Neal Casal was awesome too. I really enjoyed the guitar work. The band was tight and funky. Great great show, although i do wish I could have stayed for the entire show…
