The Wood Brothers, Marymoor Park – Redmond

The Wood Brothers are slowly becoming one of my favorite bands. I have seen them a few times already and there has never been a bad show. Lots of energy and some tasty blues!

RIP Johnny Winter

Very very sad to hear about Johnny Winters passing away. Strangely, earlier this evening I was thinking of driving up to Snoqualmie Casino to get tickets to his show, “liked” someone’s post that quoted him and now I read this. Hope he rests in peace and thank you for the great music!

New music Tuesday

Not really new music but ya, its new music for me. I scalped a few more albums. Here is the list:

Pink Floyd – Division Bell Box Set
I went back and forth on this one. But I gave in. I remember buying this album when it first came out. I was so in love with it. Gosh! I remember thinking to myself that I wish the album will grow in length, like never wanting the music to get over. Wishing it kept going on forever. This one has a blu-ray, HD and extended versions. I gave in! Wait a second, its been 20 years since this came out? Man, I am old now!

Pink Floyd - Division Bell

High Fidelity – Original Soundtrack
I have been wanting to buy this for a while. I finally found this in the dollar bin. Looks almost brand new, no scratches at all. The music? Its amazing! True to the title, its high fidelity. Oh! Sweet Nothin’ and Most of the Time are gems! Beautiful beautiful stuff! The movie is amazing too, should make it to your “Top 10 lists” 😉

R.E.M – Around the sun.
Dollar bin, couldn’t resist.

Sting – Sacred Love
Ditto – Dollar bin, couldn’t resist. Also, I heard Sting’s Ted talk on how he got back to writing music again. Maybe that was another reason.

Pigeonhed – Flash Bulb Emergency Overflow Cavalcade of Remixes
Wanna listen to this. Should be awesome!

The Endless River – Pink Floyd

Jeez, I just read that there is going to be a new Pink Floyd album called “The Endless River”. Supposed to be out this October. The album title comes from the Division Bell song High Hopes.

Pink Floyd – High Hopes:

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some sleeping tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There’s a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we’ve been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Paramount – Seattle

This was my first Nick Cave show. I missed out on seeing him earlier when he played at Bonnaroo. Honestly, I was there only to see Mark Lanegan.

The show was very good. Some songs got extremely loud and you could not hear what each musician was doing. Each song was quite different from the others. Great production, amazing lights and a lot of showmanship. He has a great voice and I guess I have to listen to him more now. There are a ton of cult Nick Cave fans and I was expecting something like a Tom Waits or a Neil Young show. It wasnt in the same league for me.

Mark Lanegan, Paramount – Seattle

Mark Lanegan opened for Nick Cave at Paramount yesterday. Acoustic with Jeff Fielder. They came, made me cry and left. On Jesus’ Program is still playing in my ears!
